Retired MLB athlete, Hall of Famer, global icon and entrepreneur, David Ortiz is swinging for the green.
David Ortiz played 20 seasons in the MLB with career highlights that include; 10x All-Star, 3x AL RBI Leader, the AL Home Run Leader ‘06, 7x Recipient of the Silver Slugger Award, ALCS MVP ‘04, a 3x World Series Champion ‘04,’07,’13 and a recipient of the World Series MVP award in 2013.
Riding the high of his recent induction into the MLB Hall of Fame, Ortiz announced that he has officially teamed up with cannabis company Rev Brands to launch a “Papi Cannabis” line.
“Once I embraced the flow of the flower everything changed, Cannabis has helped me relax, sleep better, manage stress and heal physically after a lifetime of playing ball, and I look forward to sharing Papi Cannabis and my personal journey to help people understand its benefits.”-David Ortiz | Press Statement
The first product heading to the plate is named “Sweet Sluggers”. Cannabis connoisseurs can expect additional heavy hitters like a pre-rolled blunt “Black Mamba #7”, an Ortiz favourite, to hit shelves in the near future.
“I personally prefer pre-rolled blunts, and these ones are special to me because I was able to work with my daughter Alexandra on the colorful artwork for the packaging. I love that we were able to incorporate her design…”-David Ortiz | Press Statement
Today we are seeing active and retired athletes come to the forefront to share their stories in an effort to normalize the conversation, change policy as well as create unique product offerings to push the industry forward. Earlier this year the MLB officially welcomed CBD sponsorship into Professional Baseball. While all other professional North American leagues have prohibited cbd sponsorship, the MLB looks to pitch a changeup, providing new opportunities for athlete-led cannabis companies to market, engage and educate.
